ROM-COMS SUCK (LATELY)

ROM-COMS SUCK (LATELY)

Let’s be honest..

They have kind of sucked for a while - The stories are lacking, the characters are lame, you want to punch the actors in the face, you constantly roll your eyes as you watch because it’s just SO DUMB.

BUT - smart, funny romance books hit the sweet spot.

Fun stories that deliver that silly, giggling schoolgirl crush energy.

So here are a few of my top romance books (in no particular order) that gave me all the feels of an exceptionally well done rom com.

DISCLAIMER - These books won't make you smarter or more cultured. They’re just for a good fun time, treat yourself x

Heartless by Elsie Silver

Grumpy stubborn single dad falls for city girl Nanny - they have heaps of wild sex and fall in love.

Now I’m not usually one for a romance with an age gap - but this one is one of my favourites.

This guy is so stubborn and she is absolutely hilarious and cracks him wide open and I loved it all - it makes for such a fun story, and I will say - Cade Eaton has a very dirty mouth, and I am here for it.

Failure to Match by Kyra Parsi

Matchmaker works for ridiculously difficult and asshole client - they fall in love.

The inner dialogue from some of these characters had me cackling, the female leads in all of Kyras books are always top tier - Women that have human flaws but know what they want and what they except from the people in their lives and I love that.

Is the story believable? No, but it doesn’t matter - its funny and light and silly.

Exactly what you want from a Rom Com.

Blood of Hercules - by Jasmine Mas

Greek/Roman mythology inspired - Girl with many love interests, death trials, war academy, slightly chaotic and unhinged. What even is happening here? In the end people are in love.

This one is a darker romance so check your TW - however if you’re good to go, the humour is dark and sarcastic and bizarre and its works so well.

The female lead is so different from any other fantasy female leads, she is hilarious and has many flaws and is just out to survive - and you absolutely love her for it.

As as avid fantasy reader - this was was a top read from me.

Take a hint, Dani Brown - by Talia Hibbert

Danica Brown - smart, sexy, confident, romance adverse, Phd student and Zafir Ansari - ex rugby player, security worker, grumpy secret romantic tender beast of a man.

I met Zafir Ansari and within the first few chapters I was in love. This book is top tier romantic comedy. I LOVED IT.

The characters are layered, the writing is funny, and quick, the chemistry is HOT and its the type of romantic that has you giggling and smiling.

The female lead is so different from any other fantasy female leads, she is hilarious and has many flaws and is just out to survive - and you absolutely love her for it.

As an avid fantasy reader - this was was a top read from me.

Agitator Series (specifically books 2-4 - by Meghan Quinn

Ridiculously hot and rich talented Hockey players meet funny women and fall in love.

The characters are great and the writing is fun. The men are hot, funny, driven and respectful - the women are smart, hilarious, beautiful and strong. its honestly just a really good time.

The characters definitely are the driving force in these books, the story line is more sub context, but that isn’t saying it lacks depth - just more “rom com” depth. I also cried in every one of these books - If one book can make me laugh, cry and the characters don’t drive me absolutely mental - I think its an absolute winner.

( disclaimer for whatever reason I haven’t read the first one in the series and don’t plan on it - I’m weird like that )
